Destruction of heritage: Financial Times Rio Tinto's chief executive Jean-Sebastien Jacques will resign "by mutual agreement" following the destruction of Aboriginal heritage sites by the company this year. Rio initially claimed the incident was a “misunderstanding”, suggesting it was not made aware of the cultural significance of the site by the traditional landowners in time to prevent the blasts. After months of pressures from stakeholders and shareholders, and accusations to the Government for lack of action a fter the destruction in May this year of a 46,000-year-old sacred Indigenous site in Australia, Jacques is expected to leave Rio Tinto early next year after more than four years as CEO.
